A 5-Day At-Home Skin Experience That Changed How I Approach My Care

By | December 12, 2025

A routine checkup in 2022 identified a lesion on my neck. A biopsy confirmed Basal Cell Carcinoma. Mohs Surgery was scheduled to remove it. Insurance was charged a little over $3000. My cost was about $600 with insurance coverage.

Fast forward roughly 3 years later. When I discovered this lesion on the inside of my left thigh, it had started as nothing more than a rough patch of skin several weeks prior. I was advised this was fairly typical of actinic keratosis, the precursor to skin cancer. I’m 63, raised in the Southwest and spent a lot of time in the sun over the years, so the cumulative effect of sun damage are not surprising. No itching and no other symptoms to suggest psoriasis or eczema, which I have never had at any time in my life. Out of curiosity, I used Google Lens to do a search of the lesion and all results were either Basal Cell or Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Having had Basal Cell Carcinoma, it wasn’t a far reach.

I had already ordered the Ray Gun during a summer sale in anticipation of future incidents of skin cancer. It was now time to put it to the test. I used the edge of the bulb to get deeper into the tissue. Each morning, prior to the first session, I snapped a picture of the lesion. Something notable was the effect the Ray Gun was having on the Cherry Angiomas which had been caught up in the lesion or treatment area. I noticed they were also affected, more so the one directly under the bulb during the treatment, You can see this in the images off to the left of the legion. The other cherry angioma is further away on the right, which becomes more visible in the image from day 3 where I begin to include a wider angle of the left thigh. By the morning of day 6, the site is slightly pink with a little dryness and peeling, but overall smooth with no evidence of the lesion remaining. Just for good measure I concluded with one more 5 minute session using the full face of the bulb rather than the edge.

By the way, if it isn’t painfully obvious yet, not only am I able to apply treatments in the comfort of my home, but the Ray Gun has already paid for itself and then some with this first application. I have a couple of other spots on my body I’m going to treat now as a proactive measure, so you can begin to see that not only can I take charge of my own healing, but the cost of my well being is substantially reduced.
